A tropical paradise in the very heart of the city. These botanical gardens are amongst the world’s oldest, as they were opened in 1638.
Plant and flower market at the Amstelveld
This really is an insider’s tip, where you’ll find more locals than tourists. Every Monday morning, the Amstelveld square transforms into a picturesque place with little market stalls selling all kinds of different plants and flowers.

Not all zoo’s are worth visiting, but this one is a true gem. Opened in 1838, Artis is the oldest zoo in The Netherlands and offers a wide range of activities for all ages.

Another local favorite: every Saturday the gardens of the famous Hermitage museum are the go-to place to sample the best organic produce in Amsterdam.
It is only once per decade that the Floriade is organized. This edition of the horticultural exposition takes place just a 30 minute drive from Amsterdam, in Almere.
