This philosophy led to our collaboration with Bonne Suits, a partnership that seamlessly blends workwear with elegance, tradition with innovation.

The story began when our Director of Operations, Sam Hilkens, stepped into the Bonne Suits store and art gallery. What started as a simple fitting turned into a discussion about fashion, functionality, and the art of hospitality. “I started talking to Bonne about his vision on fashion and art,” he recalls. “This initial visit sparked a conversation about the possibility of working together.” The idea of incorporating Bonne Suits into the uniforms for our restaurant teams took root, setting the stage for an inspiring creative journey.

For Bonne Reijn, founder of Bonne Suits, workwear has always been more than just practical clothing—it is a statement. “My fascination with uniforms goes back to childhood, growing up on a flower nursery, dressed in farmers’ overalls,” he explains. “My grandfather, a communist, believed in the idea of a shared wardrobe—an intriguing contrast to my years in styling, where individuality was paramount. This tension between uniformity and self-expression continues to inspire me.” His label has redefined workwear for everyday life, bridging the gap between utility and personal expression.

Bonne shares that dressing the restaurant teams at The Dylan has been a particularly exciting project to him: “my label has taken workwear beyond the factory floor, redefining it for everyday life. I’ve had the privilege of doing this for institutions like the Rijksmuseum and Het Nieuwe Instituut, and The Dylan is another partnership that gives me great pride. First, because I have a deep appreciation for hospitality. The art of hosting—the delicate balance of warmth and professionalism—is something I find both socially and stylistically compelling. Second, The Dylan is quintessentially Amsterdam. The city is woven into everything I create, making this collaboration a synergy between fashion, function, and place’’.

Sharing a mutual vision, a collaborative process of multiple test versions and refinements followed, as we ought to adapting the distinctive style of Bonne Suits to complement the more refined and somewhat more formal ambiance of our hotel. We arrived at a final design that perfectly aligns with our environment: a uniform that embodies both tradition and modernity. “The jacket features a cropped fit that adds a contemporary, subtly seductive touch, while a three-button closure and slanted chest pocket keep it sophisticated,” Reijn shares. “Practicality is key—our signature oversized side pockets now feature a hidden compartment for a waiter’s knife. On the back, two curved seams allow for easy tailoring, ensuring a sharp, comfortable fit.”

To Sam, this collaboration was an inspiring journey: “Bonne and his team are truly inspiring individuals, seamlessly blending the worlds of fashion, culture, and art. Their deep-rooted connection to the vibrant Amsterdam cultural scene has added a unique and authentic dimension to this collaboration. I am incredibly proud of the result and grateful for the creative synergy we have achieved together.”

More than just a new uniform, this collection symbolizes the intersection of style and service. It reflects The Dylan’s commitment to craftsmanship, authenticity, and the ever-evolving nature of hospitality.
