  • Opera Stanislavski, part of the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of Royal Theatre Carré

March

  • The 160th anniversary of the birth of Vincent van Gogh (his works can be viewed in the Hermitage Amsterdam)
  • 9: Opening of the exhibition Peter the Great at the Hermitage Amsterdam
  • 21: Opening of the Keukenhof in Lisse, with the presentation of the ‘I amsterdam Tulip’ (until 20-05-13)
  • 27: 175 years of Royal Artis - opening of the Park in Bloom exhibition, showing Artis Zoo’s grand park at its best (until December 2013)

April

  • 10: The ‘Sterrenjubileum concert’, celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Concertgebouw and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with the world’s top classical music stars, including Lang Lang, Janine Jansen and Thomas Hampson
  • 11: The Concertgebouw's actual birthday, celebrated with an evening full of classical hits
  • 13: The 'Grand Opening' of the Rijksmuseum
  • 14: The reopening of the Rijksmuseum for the public
  • 18: The Observatorium (a stargazing observatory) in the dome of Felix Meritis will be accessible to the public for the first time in 200 years, in combination with the art project Amsterdam from Above - Amsterdam from Below
  • 27 - 28: Amsterdam Tulip Days

May

  • 1: Reopening of the Van Gogh Museum and 40th jubilee
  • 15: UEFA Europa League final in the Amsterdam ArenA
  • 25 - 26: Amsterdam Heritage Days: taking place over four weekends, unique monuments in Amsterdam open their doors to the public. In May, the theme is renowned thinkers and religious leaders, and how they shaped the city
  • 31: Activities on the Museumplein, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum (until 02-06-13). Plus the opening of the exhibition Van Gogh aan het Werk

June

  • Month of the Museum Square, the cultural heart of Amsterdam
  • The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw perform alongside a world renowned DJ in front of the EYE Film Institute Netherlands
  • 14 - 16: Open Garden Days, in which some thirty gardens of canal houses annually open their gates to the public: in 2013 the theme is ‘400 years of garden history’

July

  • The 20th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week, with a special 2013 focus in the programming at Westergasfabriek
  • 13 - 14: Amsterdam Heritage Days, one of the four heritage weekends in which unique monuments open their doors to the public – in July, explore the world of water and technique

August

  • 10 - 11: Amsterdam Heritage Days: one of the four heritage weekends in which unique monuments open their doors to the public. In August, the beginning of the cultural season is marked with a music and literature programme in theatres and music studios
  • 16 - 25: Grachtenfestival 2013. Including ‘Diner der Componisten’: a unique canal-side dining experience featuring live classical music, in collaboration with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble
  • 24: Prinsengracht concert featuring the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

September

  • 14 - 15: Amsterdam Heritage Days closes in September with an ode to the trade and relations that launched Amsterdam’s Golden Age

Oktober

  • 16 - 20: Amsterdam Dance Event (dates subject to change)
  • 18: Opening of the exhibition Emancipation in Black and White in the Tropenmuseum. Under the umbrella of 150 years since the abolishment of slavery

November

  • 2: Museum Night Amsterdam
  • 3: Anniversary concert of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, featuring the premiere of a newly composed work by Louis Andriessen, gifted from the Concertgebouw
  • 12: Hortus Botanicus was established 375 years ago

December

  • The grand finale of the Amsterdam 2013 celebrations features a huge New Year’s Eve party, remembering all that has been and looking forward to the many new traditions set in motion during 2013!
  • The Amsterdam Light Festival, a beautiful winter festival that lights up the city
  • 25: Closing concert of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's jubilee year, with the Christmas matinee led by Andris Nelsons
